Come and Sing Day 2025

Review of Howard Goodall’s Eternal Light
It was Inverurie Choral Society’s privilege to host another Come & Sing event on Saturday 8 March 2025. Seventy three local singers, including ICS’s new MD Jamie Campbell, performed Howard Goodall’s wonderful and challenging work “Eternal Light.” Brian Smith, our Guest Conductor following the departure of Faith Ockwell, wielded the baton, Adrian Dean worked his magic with the piano and organ, and Emma Bell (Soprano) and Chris (Baritone), the soloists, performed beautifully. We had a terrific day of singing together, helped by all our musicians’ expertise and by the hospitality of the Acorn Centre Staff & Volunteers. Brian, our guest conductor, sent everyone who took part this message:
“May I take this opportunity to say how much I enjoyed our time together at the Eternal Light "Come and Sing” yesterday? I am really grateful to everyone for the individual and collective commitment that was so evident.
The quality of the performance at the and of the day reflected great credit on everyone - a real partnership to bring this challenging and rewarding music to life!.
Congratulations to you all, and heartfelt thanks to ICS and their Committee for their first-class organisation - and for giving us this opportunity to make this amazing music together, with so much enjoyment.
With thanks and every good wish,
Brian

A bit about us, by way of Introduction

We are a friendly and welcoming bunch of folk who enjoy singing together every week, Wed nights, 7:30pm at The Acorn Centre, Inverurie, under the baton of Jamie Campbell, our new MD, putting on concerts at Christmas and in June, as well as giving performances in community settings and public places.
We also enjoy a bit of socialising, everything from joining fellow singers for a coffee or a pint, to a celebration party, BBQ or a Burns Supper.
Collaboration with other music makers is a particular pleasure. The successful Haydn "Creation" of 2018 with the Inverurie Orchestra remains a highlight to look back on. We were very excited to perform our Christmas Concert in 2023 along side Aberdeenshire Saxophone Orchestra, playing “The Snowman”. And it was a real treat to be joined by the Strathburn School Choir for our Christmas Concert in 2024. We also have a planned carol singing programme during December in local retirement, sheltered and care accommodation.
